Nitrogen Generators: Critical Support for Aerospace Missions

Introduction The aerospace industry relies heavily on nitrogen generators for a multitude of applications vital to space exploration and astronaut safety. These generators are engineered to supply nitrogen in environments where it is crucial for life support and operational functions.

Applications
1. Life Support in Spacecraft Nitrogen is essential for maintaining cabin air pressure and the life-sustaining oxygen-nitrogen mixture. Nitrogen generators on space stations or spacecraft produce the necessary nitrogen to ensure the survival and health of astronauts.
2. Propulsion Systems In some spacecraft propulsion systems, nitrogen serves as a propellant or is used for pressure control. High-purity nitrogen from generators is critical for meeting the stringent requirements of these systems.
3. Environmental Control Nitrogen generators play a role in the spacecraft's environmental control system by regulating the gas composition inside the cabin. This ensures not only a habitable environment for astronauts but also the proper functioning of onboard equipment.

The air compressor compresses the raw air into high-pressure air, sends it to the air buffer tank to stabilize the pressure, and then further removes moisture, oil mist, etc. through the filter, and freezes and dehydrates through the refrigerated dryer to remove a large amount of moisture, and then enters the third stage. The filter further filters harmful substances, and then the clean compressed air enters from the bottom of the adsorption tower. After the air flow is diffused through the air diffusion device (universal spiral or porcelain ball), it evenly enters the adsorption tower for oxygen and nitrogen adsorption and separation, and then exits from the outlet end. The nitrogen flows out and enters the nitrogen storage tank. This nitrogen production process takes about 1 minute. Afterwards, through pressure equalization and pressure reduction (to normal pressure), the adsorbed impurity components (mainly oxygen) are removed, and the regeneration of the adsorbent is completed. The two adsorption towers operate in alternating cycles, continuously feeding raw air, and continuously producing qualified nitrogen.

Internal Gas Supply for Aerospace Vehicles Nitrogen generators play a vital role in maintaining the internal environment of aerospace vehicles. They supply the necessary nitrogen to regulate air pressure and maintain the optimal oxygen-nitrogen ratio within the cabin. This balance is essential for the environmental control system and for ensuring the survival and well-being of astronauts during space missions.

Propulsion System In the propulsion systems of aerospace vehicles, nitrogen serves critical functions. It is utilized both as a propellant and for pressure control within the system. High-purity nitrogen, provided by nitrogen generators, is essential for meeting the precise requirements of these sophisticated systems, contributing to the successful execution of space missions.

Environmental Control System Nitrogen generators also contribute to the environmental control systems of aerospace vehicles. They help regulate the cabin's gas composition, which is crucial for sustaining a habitable environment for astronauts and for the reliable operation of all onboard equipment.

Aerospace Vehicle Laboratories and Scientific Research Facilities Beyond their in-flight applications, nitrogen generators are also invaluable in aerospace-related laboratories and research facilities on Earth. They provide the high-purity nitrogen necessary for a wide range of experiments, supporting scientific research and technological advancements in the aerospace field.

Nitrogen generators are a cornerstone of aerospace operations, supporting everything from the internal gas supply of vehicles to propulsion systems, environmental controls, and ground-based research. Their ability to supply high-purity nitrogen makes them indispensable for the safety, success, and continued progress of space exploration.
