Nitrogen generator for heat treatment equipment

Introduction Heat treatment is a critical process that alters the physical and mechanical properties of metals and alloys through precise heating and cooling cycles. Nitrogen generators are indispensable in this process, providing the necessary nitrogen for various heat treatment procedures such as annealing, quenching, and tempering.
Purpose Nitrogen generators offer a dependable, on-site source of high-purity nitrogen. This gas is vital for creating an inert or controlled atmosphere within thermal treatment furnaces, preventing oxidation and decarburization, and ensuring consistent, superior quality outcomes.
Technology Designed to meet specific flow rate and purity requirements for thermal processing, nitrogen generators utilize advanced technologies like Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) or membrane separation to extract nitrogen directly from the air. This eliminates the dependency on traditional nitrogen cylinders or liquid nitrogen deliveries, ensuring a continuous and cost-effective supply.

The air compressor compresses the raw air into high-pressure air, sends it to the air buffer tank to stabilize the pressure, and then further removes moisture, oil mist, etc. through the filter, and freezes and dehydrates through the refrigerated dryer to remove a large amount of moisture, and then enters the third stage. The filter further filters harmful substances, and then the clean compressed air enters from the bottom of the adsorption tower. After the air flow is diffused through the air diffusion device (universal spiral or porcelain ball), it evenly enters the adsorption tower for oxygen and nitrogen adsorption and separation, and then exits from the outlet end. The nitrogen flows out and enters the nitrogen storage tank. This nitrogen production process takes about 1 minute. Afterwards, through pressure equalization and pressure reduction (to normal pressure), the adsorbed impurity components (mainly oxygen) are removed, and the regeneration of the adsorbent is completed. The two adsorption towers operate in alternating cycles, continuously feeding raw air, and continuously producing qualified nitrogen.

    1. Inertization Protection For certain metal materials, an oxygen-free or low-oxygen environment is essential during heat treatment to prevent oxidation and surface carbonization. Nitrogen generators supply high-purity nitrogen for inertization, ensuring the surface quality and maintaining the performance of the metal materials.

    2. Quenching Medium In the metal quenching process, an inert gas is necessary as the quenching medium. This prevents metal oxidation at high temperatures, which can adversely affect the metal's properties.

    3. Atmosphere Control Special heat treatment processes may require precise control over the furnace atmosphere to achieve the desired heat treatment effects. Nitrogen generators can provide a customized nitrogen atmosphere, allowing for the adjustment of the furnace environment to facilitate the heat treatment reaction.

    4. Annealing Protection During the annealing process, nitrogen serves as a protective gas to shield the metal from oxidation and carburization reactions at elevated temperatures, which are critical for achieving the material's desired microstructure and properties.

    5. Tempering Atmosphere In the tempering process, nitrogen is again utilized as a protective gas to prevent metal oxidation at high temperatures. This step is essential for stress relieving and for stabilizing the microstructure of the metal.

In Summary The heat treatment nitrogen generator plays a multifaceted role in the industry, offering crucial nitrogen supply and protection across various stages of the heat treatment process. These include inert protection, quenching medium, atmosphere control, annealing protection, and tempering atmosphere, thereby enhancing the overall quality and consistency of heat-treated materials.
